Bernie O’Hare, who runs the political blog, Lehigh Valley Ramblings, had to go and post everyone who has already filed in the upcoming Primary Election. The bastard couldn’t even wait for the deadline of March 7th, when all petitions have to be turned in.

Yes, I am running for re-election to Council. The list for West Easton currently consists only of Democrats. They are myself, Dan DePaul, Paul James, and Jeff Breidinger. I am expecting any other Democrats or Republican will file before the deadline. They still have 5 days.

If it seems like I just ran for election, your memory isn’t bad. Last time I ran was in 2015. It was for a 2-year seat that became available to complete a 4-year term of a Councilman that resigned. That seat is now up again for a normal 4-year term, as are all 4 seats up for election this cycle.

The position of Mayor will also be open, due to Mayor Gerald Gross retiring. He announced at a previous council meeting he will not be seeking another term. Council President Dan DePaul has also filed for that position.

grand_poobahI had considered running for a higher office, but Grand Poobah of the Loyal Order of Water Buffalo Lodge No. 26 wasn’t up for election this year. I really like the hat. It would cover my bald head nicely.

So, thanks to O’Hare I won’t be making my announcement at Trump Tower. I canceled the marching band and open bar.

I’m also returning the $1000/plate fundraising dinner reservations.

If this post seems like I do not take the job of Councilman seriously, then you would be wrong. My record of attending every Council meeting and being serious is a matter of record, when it comes to our community and decisions that affect residents.

If you don’t have a sense of humor and the ability to poke fun at yourself on occasion, then politics – even small town politics – will cause you sleepless nights. And I sleep well.
