Mayor Dan DePaul easily won the Democrat Primary against his challenger, appointed Councilman Kenny Decker, Jr. by more than 2-1, among Democrat voters.

DePaul received 57 votes to Decker’s 25 votes. DePaul also received 35 write-in votes from Republicans, which will place his name on the Republican side of the November General Election ballot.

Decker’s decision to challenge DePaul had no support among his fellow council members, many of whom saw the challenge as pursuing unreasonably high expectations for someone who was appointed to Council less than 2 years ago, and had not won an election by voters.

Decker also ran to retain his seat on Council, running a duel campaign.

Paul Brown (no relation to Janie Jones Brown), in his first attempt to be elected to Council, finished 5th with 29 votes.

In the Council Primary the results are as follows:

4-YEAR SEAT (4)

(D) Paul James 55

(D) Janie Jones Brown 52

(D) Kenneth Decker, Jr. 52

(D) Matt Dees 51

(D) Paul Brown 29

There were no Republican candidates for a 4-year seat.

2-YR SEAT (1)

(D) Paul James 60

(R) Robert Adams 41

Paul James and Robert Adams will face off in the November General Election for the 2-year seat.
