Scott Fistler is the “new” Cesar Chavez

Cesar Chavez was an American farm worker, labor leader and civil rights activist, who, with Dolores Huerta, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association.

He has also been dead for more than 20 years when, in 1993, he died of natural causes.

That hasn’t stopped a twice failed Congressional candidate from Arizona legally changing his name and running once again under the name of this famous and respected labor union icon. He also decided to switch parties, leaving the Republicans and joining the Democrats in a sudden change of political philosophy to go with his new name.

Scott Fistler lost a 2012 write-in bid for Congress against Representative Ed Pastor only to have his hopes dashed again last year, losing an election for Phoenix City Council to Pastor’s daughter, Laura.

Scott Fistler paid $319 to legally change his name to Cesar Chavez and has launched a brand new campaign website that displays pictures of the newly amassed support he seems to have garnered with his rebirth.

However, a closer look at the pictures shows that the throngs of people lining the streets with banners of support and love for the former Scott Fistler wasn’t taken in Arizona. They are, in fact, old pictures of supporters of the now deceased original Cesar Chavez, that were taken in Venezuela.

If you haven’t figured out why Fistler changed his name to Chavez, here’s a clue:

Fistler, aiming to cash in on that legacy, has filed an application to run for office in the heavily Hispanic 7th Congressional District, according to the Arizona Capitol Times.

Chavez (formerly Fistler) told the newspaper he was “flooded with calls and emails” and thus unable to dedicate time to speaking with the press. He stipulated that, if he did eventually find the time, he would not discuss the reason for his name change. Chavez (formerly Fistler) only said that he “experienced many hardships” under his former name.

Sure he did. Possibly in grade school.

I’m willing to bet the Hispanic voters in his congressional district aren’t stupid.

Fistler, I mean, “Chavez,” surely is the idiot if he thought nobody would notice, because they have. His website is filling with comments calling him out for what he is.

Others who run for public office in this country are sometimes successful at fooling the public into believing they are something other than what they are. Thankfully, they are usually exposed. Whether it is in a larger city like Phoenix, or a small town like West Easton, a liar won’t be elected to public office no matter how much they misrepresent the facts. In the matter of Fistler, like our own resident loser, all the self-promotion and fake followers won’t get him enough votes to outnumber the intelligent residents in his community.

“Fraud,” “Liar,” “Cheat,” and “Scumbag,” are among the nicer descriptions he is receiving from visitors to his website and it is well deserved.
