electricity-meter_full_600It’s still not to late to lock in a fixed rate of .0749 per kilowatt hour by visiting PAPowerSwitch.com. How long this fixed rate being offered by FirstEnergy Solutions will last is unknown, but if you’re willing to contract with them into 2018, you can avoid a 25% increase in your MetEd electric bill that begins on June 1st.

You also don’t have to worry about getting screwed with a variable rate offer.

Variable rates are those that started out low but nailed people for hundreds of dollars in unexpected increases this past winter and made headlines.

The fixed rate offered from FirstEnergy Solutions guarantees a price of 7.49 cents per kilowatt hour with no surprises and considering that energy costs are likely to only increase in the coming years, I would say it is a good deal to grab it now.

Just follow the instructions at PAPowerSwitch.com to compare prices. Find the offers from FirstEnergy Solutions (there is a second, shorter contract at a higher price) and enroll. You will receive a confirmation of enrollment upon completion.

It’s unlikely that the higher June 1st billing from MetEd can be avoided before the switch takes place, but by July 1st your lower rate from First Energy should be evident on your bill.

Remember, it’s better to choose a fixed rate, rather than a variable rate!
