Your Children Will Remain At Home Longer Than You Think

This is an opinion. No school or government official has told me directly, anything different than what has been announced.

Parents, expect an extra-long, “fun-time” with your kids that will last longer than you think.

From what I’m hearing and reading, I’m not anticipating school closings to be lifted. Schools districts are discussing the ramifications of remaining closed longer than the first week in April.

If you’ve been paying attention, schools are gearing up for online classrooms. If you have kids of school age, you likely got notification that children will be offered online lessons.

That’s because the Covid-19 numbers continue to rise in Pennsylvania.

The fact is, the United States began its mitigation effort too late.

Three weeks too late, and there are those who still think it is a joke, a political conspiracy, or just don’t give a damn about anyone else (yes, the latter refers to you, Millenials).

An additional week of closed K-12 schools won’t be long enough. While some of the kids who were infected might no longer be contagious, there are probably more who will be contagious by the time they return – should they return after April 6th.

The government is simply buying time, putting off the inevitable and allowing schools to prepare for home schooling using virtual classrooms.

Unless the extra time sees a drop in reported cases, don’t expect your kids to be out of your hair and back to their schools.

You only need to watch the press briefings to see that the federal government is attempting to ramp up mitigation and treatment efforts. Hospitals are running out of supplies and some medical facilities are getting close to being overwhelmed.

Your kids will remain home and you’re not allowed to strangle any of them.
