The Coronavirus is affecting West Easton, by forcing some of us to make a decision that will be disappointing to the community.

West Easton Mayor Dan DePaul, Council President Matthew Dees, Emergency Management Coordinator Bill Concolino, and Borough Manager Joan Heebner spent time last night giving their opinion of whether to cancel the borough’s Easter Egg Hunt, scheduled for April 4th.

Following the World Health Organization’s declaration of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) being a pandemic we are taking a closer look at the event and potential risk of a large gathering of people, when medical experts are advising against such events.

Unless there is some miraculous downturn in the current status of an increasing number of infections and death, the unanimous consensus is that the egg hunt should be canceled.

Locally, an Easton charter school is closed due to a child being tested for COVID-19.

Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 announced yesterday, all field trips through at least April 9th have been canceled.

Tatamy Borough has already made an official announcement that they have canceled their Easter Egg Hunt.

Other municipalities are expected to follow the same course of action in the coming weeks, as the entire country is coming to the realization that previous boasts of COVID-19 being under control and the numbers of infected people becoming zero “soon” were political hype.

West Easton officials are expected to maintain their opinion that cancelling the egg hunt is the best course of action in helping to deter the spread of COVID-19 and protect the children, parents, and those elderly grandparents who accompany them to our egg hunt.

An official decision and announcement will be made on Friday, by 5:00 pm.

I will post it on this site and you can also visit the borough’s Facebook page.
