2nd-Key1Lehigh Valley Live, the Express-Times local blog version of their newspaper, provided little detail surrounding a West Easton home hit by a car early this morning. The driver lost control of the vehicle at 12:02 a.m., at the corner of 2nd and Iron Streets.

Being that the house is only 3 doors away from my own, it wasn’t difficult for me to take the short walk and find out more. I spoke with Mr. and Mrs. Leslie who own the home. They provided a bit more detail.

2nd-Key3Mr. Leslie said the 2004 Subaru WRX was driven by a 19 year-old that lives on Keystone Ave. in West Easton. The young man had repeatedly been speeding through the neighborhood before finally ending up in his yard and hitting his house, Mr. Leslie told me.

The Leslies also told me they weren’t happy with the 30 minute wait it took for the PSP to show up after being called, though they gave high praise to the Safety First Vol. Fire Co., who did arrive quickly. “They were great,” said Mr. Leslie.

Mr. Leslie told me an insurance adjuster is scheduled to inspect the damage to his home sometime tomorrow. Some damage was obvious to the siding, brick work, foundation, and sliding doors of his patio, but it could have been far worse for Mr. Leslie, or the driver, if not for luck. The young man driving the vehicle was treated for only minor injuries.

2nd-Key2To the left was a telephone pole where the driver entered onto Mr. Leslie’s lawn. Though the telephone pole was missed, the driver did topple and damage a borough street sign which was reset upright, but the signs should be replaced. To the right was a large tree. The driver went between the two major obstructions and was stopped by the cement foundation of the home, avoiding going into the enclosed porch.

According to Mr. Leslie, the young driver was upset with a girlfriend that evening and apparently decided to take out his aggravation in a vehicle… on a wet road… exceeding the speed limit. Maybe next time (and there is always a next time) he’ll know to just take a long walk like the rest of us have done.
