West Easton Council Missing More Than Members

dodge_ballTonight’s West Easton Council Meeting was missing two members, but still had the required quorum to get little accomplished, other than authorizing some payments. So it seemed.

The budget was put off until the next meeting on November 24th.

No statement was forthcoming about the two Jeep Cherokees that Councilman Tom Nodoline previously said he has plans on keeping, with one to be used as a plow vehicle, adding approximately $5000 to their cost. I urged the rest of the council to get rid of the Jeeps, but I expect we’ll see them sputtering around town in due time.

Councilman Tom Nodoline, as well as every other councilperson ignored my personal request to bring to a vote his own talked about reduction in the senior citizen age to qualify for a reduced garbage & sewer bill. There wasn’t even a motion to open it for discussion in the budget, which likely means it is dead.

This, after Nodoline put off discussing it at the last council meeting.

It would appear council can waste their newly found money on Jeeps, but can’t put a few thousand toward alleviating some financial burden for seniors below the age of 65.

Some can talk the talk, but won’t walk the walk.

I met our newest councilman, Vernon Moore. He seems a pleasant enough fellow and shook my hand to introduce himself when I arrived before the meeting started. I had never met him before. He resides on Ridge Street.

In attendance were three other residents and it was a pleasant surprise to see one of them had no outbursts of any kind and actually asked some intriguing questions regarding the appointment of Mr. Moore.

Apparently, Mr. Moore was interviewed by Mr. Nodoline, though Mayor Gross added he was also part of the interview process. Once the video is processed and posted it may indicate more precisely if other applicants existed and if they were interviewed, as well. It being late and my being involved with other matters (should you have noticed my lack of posts lately) has me not recalling at the moment, exactly what was said about any *others who may have applied.

I’m not sure what to make of Mr. Moore. He approved minutes of last month’s meeting in which he did not attend, either as a spectator, or councilman. He should have abstained, since he could not be certain of their accuracy.

My hope is that Mr. Moore will become independent of the old guard in time.

We also have a new Treasurer, who won the position based on cost. According to Council President, Kelly Gross, two had applied for the job. One requested $160/mo. The other accepted the posted salary for the position of $100/mo. Both were equally qualified, she said.

Mayor Gross would like to see council resurrect the children’s Christmas party, once sponsored by West Easton. He noted the increase in children and younger residents that are participating in the annual Halloween parade and thinks the Christmas party might get more interest than in it had previously.

*UPDATE 11/12/14

I was reminded through an email I received that Mr. Robert Lewis was another candidate for appointment to the council seat left vacant, due to Councilman Stout’s passing. Mr. Moore was appointed by a 4-2 vote over Mr. Lewis during October’s council meeting because Mr. Moore was a “Super Voter,” as described by Mr. Nodoline.
