West Easton Council Members Display Differing Opinions

During last night’s Council Meeting it became clear that not every issue has members in total agreement.

The role of the Borough Manager, the purchase of computer equipment, and other items including the sending of an employee to a distant seminar for training put that independent thought out for the public to see.

Probably the most argumentative of the discussions came with the issue of the role of our Borough Manager and the involvement of council members in the day-to-day business that falls under the Borough Manager’s responsibilities.

It was a fairly heated exchange I was involved in and at one point directed my frustration with Councilman Henry Nodoline and Council President Dan DePaul toward Mayor Gross. He wanted to interject a comment and I shut him down in an admittedly undiplomatic manner in order to continue the “discussion” (argument) with my fellow councilmen.

I apologized to Mayor Gross following the conclusion of the meeting when he approached me about it. Though the Mayor isn’t entitled to be a participant during Council discussions, I certainly could have been more tactful in conveying that to him.

As time permits I will be writing more about the meeting and after rendering the video I will also be rendering opinions on why I voted as I did, or argued certain positions during that meeting.

One of the most controversial may be the approval of new computer equipment and support that will initially cost the Borough about $15,000. Approved by a 4-2 vote, it had resident Tricia Mezzacappa walk out in obvious anger about that expenditure.

Council voted to censure Councilman Tom Nodoline for his involvement in our Computergate incidents recorded on December 30, 2015 and January 4, 2016.

Council also authorized our Solicitor to pursue, with the appropriate government agency, action against those involved in Computergate and other matters discovered, following the new Council taking office.
