Working with our Borough Manager, Joan Heebner, I will be seeking a grant for residents to receive a blue, 32 gallon recycling bin that will be the property of West Easton Borough, but assigned to each homeowner for use.
The grant is a 10/90, which translates to West Easton paying 10 percent of the cost of the bins. The grant will reimburse West Easton 90 percent.
This is the same grant that presented itself in 2015, but wasn’t acted on by the Council President/Borough Manager in place that year.
It has been offered again for 2018.
Only an estimate at this time, for the slightly more than 500 homes in West Easton, I expect the cost to the borough will be between $2000 – $3000.
It is hoped the standard bins, stamped with, “Recycling” and “West Easton Borough,” will eliminate most of the unmarked containers being used, the need for the recycling stickers offered by the borough, and will make it easier for our trash hauler to recognize those cans designated for recycling.
If the grant application is approved by the offering authority, the Council will eventually need to vote on accepting, or passing on, the purchase of the bins.
