A new roof and an automatic generator for Borough Hall will likely be presented for approval of the full Council on February 12th, the next scheduled Council meeting.

The roof, when it was brought up by Councilman Henry Nodoline at one of the first meetings in 2016 was nearing its life expectancy.

I argued against it at the time, noting it was still in good condition and we could survive with only a few patches needed. I believed there were larger and expensive priorities that should be addressed first, including a massive amount of road work that had been neglected.

The time allotted for the existing shingles to keep Borough Hall dry inside have reached their date and I’m not one to push the envelope any further by delaying the roof replacement with new shingles.

I will be voting “yes” to having the roof replaced.

standby-generatorAn automatic stand-by generator for Borough Hall will also come up for discussion. Another item that was brought up in 2016, the delay was due to the fact that the main gas supply line that would be tapped for Borough Hall was inadequate in size to supply the generator with the needed volume of gas.

UGI is currently replacing those main lines in the street, making an automatic generator possible. The portable gasoline generator purchased for an emergency, while awaiting the UGI upgrade, will be retained by the Borough for the Road Department, or in the event of a life-threatening homeowner emergency.

The automatic generator that will be sought for Council approval is the type that turns on automatically when it senses a power failure and self-diagnoses itself on a monthly basis. It will keep our local government operating in the event of any power loss.

I will be voting “yes” to approve this purchase, as well.
