After going 12 years without one, West Easton held a National Night Out event yesterday and the turn out was better than expected, considering the short amount of time allotted, since the decision to hold it was made.

Though rain fell in other parts of the Lehigh Valley, our local areas remained dry. Even an unknown incident across the street, that had three PSP cars respond at the start of the event, was concluded quickly.

In an unofficial count, approximately 70 visitors stopped by to participate in National Night Out. Some stayed briefly. Others stayed through the entire event that ran from 6 pm to 8 pm. Many residents took the opportunity to talk with town representatives about issues, as they shared food and refreshments.

Mayor Gross, along with Council President Dan DePaul, Councilmen Mammana, Dees, James, and Lewis engaged residents in casual conversation. Some had questions about the new DEP mandate for MS4, police protection, and Block Watch, being among the informal discussions.

Safety First brought down a fire truck, Suburban EMS provided a rescue vehicle, and State Trooper, Cpl. Mike Irons, attended with his cruiser. Stockertown Police Chief John Soloe was unable to attend as planned, due to an unexpected obligation.

Residents were provided pizza, hotdogs, snacks, birch beer, watermelon, and cake, along with balloons and mini-toys for the kids. Safety First Social Club donated the hot dogs and their Ladies Auxiliary donated the rolls. West Easton Mart provided and served the cake.

Thanks to all the special services who provided equipment and personnel, the borough employees who assisted, and the residents who attended. This once abandoned National Night Out event can now be expected to be repeated again next year.
