The 2017 Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony had rain arriving this morning, but the event went on with only minor changes to plans.

The ceremony was held indoors for the most part, where speakers and those in attendance could remain dry in Council chambers.

The flag on the outdoor flagpole was previously raised to its full-staff position.

The planned folding of a memorial flag that would have taken place outdoors was omitted. The memorial flag was folded in advance. Both it and the wreath were placed at the Monument just before lowering the flag on the pole to half-staff.

The Honor Guard performed their gun salute just outside the entrance to Borough Hall.

Master of Ceremonies was Ted Veresink, Lt. Col., Army – Retired, who introduced the speakers.

Fr. Daniel Troyan, of Holy Ghost Ukranian Catholic Church performed the Invocation.

Speakers were State Representative Robert Freeman, Council President Dan DePaul, and Mayor Gerald Gross.

Thanks to all who attended, including the Honor Guard and Safety First Volunteer Fire Dept, who arrived dry, but left wet after performing their services outside, without cover from the rain.

May all the veterans, from all the wars, who gave up their tomorrows so that we can enjoy our todays, be in God’s safe hands.
