County Executive Lamont McClure will be arriving in West Easton today to present a check for the West Easton Police Department.
The public is invited to attend.
The presentation will take place at 1:30 this afternoon, at the West Easton Police Station, located at 301 Sixth Street.
Although the exact amount of the HUD money hasn’t been disclosed, my sources tell me it may be as much as $20,000 to help offset start-up costs of West Easton forming its own police department.
This contribution follows the $10,000 provided to West Easton in February, when NorCo DA John Morganelli presented a check from the Drug Forfeiture Fund.
Mayor Dan DePaul will be accepting the check on behalf of the borough.
Mayor DePaul has been recognized by many on Council as the driving force in seeing West Easton obtain donations of equipment and money. He also worked to secure a favorable lease agreement for a police station, as West Easton seeks to alleviate some of the burden placed on Pennsylvania State Police providing small municipalities with protection.
Due to this late announcement any West Easton resident who opposes this donation, which will save local taxpayers money, should arrive on location with their anti-grants/donations placard, as there won’t be time to write a letter to the Northampton County Council with the usual list of personal grievances.
UPDATE 2:00: The donation was $20,000. Thank you!
