Social Security Under Attack Once More

Social Security“Social Security won’t be there for me.”

I used to say that in my thirties and forties, not long after I learned that the government raised my retirement age from 65 to almost 67 in a change to Social Security that took affect in 1983. That was also before I understood what benefits are provided by the Social Security System and the fact that the government can’t allow Social Security to fail. Not entirely, anyway. They can only muck it up, like everything else they tamper with. Continue reading

Governor Corbett Fracks Over Pennsylvania

corbettFor those of us who live in Northampton County, we don’t hear a lot of news about fracking being used in the oil and gas industry. That’s because most of the fracking being done in Pennsylvania is taking place in its western and northern counties.

For those unfamiliar with “fracking,” other than it being used as an expletive that replaced the F-bomb word on a science fiction series years ago, fracking is far more than a curse word. Although, using it as such in relation to how it is affecting our ecology and health is appropriate. Continue reading

Fresh snow on the trees and Jack Frost nipping at noses.
Fun snowball fights and making snow angels.
Sledding with the family and enjoying a warm fire.
Enjoying the skiing and snowboarding opportunities.

In general, I’m reminded it is a time of year that creates great memories.

Here are my thoughts, as I grab my Arctic Blast Ergonomic Snow Shovel: Continue reading

Mezzacappa Tells Wilson Borough Council “Just Say No” In Letter About Police Coverage

screwedWhen I was told that a resident of West Easton wrote to the Wilson Borough Council, in an effort to screw their own West Easton community out of obtaining police coverage I was skeptical.

After all, it was known that the City of Easton, led by Mayor Panto, wasn’t going to renew the long-standing police contract. If Wilson couldn’t be persuaded to provide police protection, the community of West Easton would be left to depend on State Police, or scramble to create a new police force.

I requested from Wilson any letter received from any West Easton resident that advised their Council against providing police coverage to West Easton. Continue reading

Local Reporters Get An Earful At West Easton Council Meeting

earfulLast night’s West Easton Council Meeting found two newspaper reporters in attendance.

Sarah Peters from The Express-Times and freelance writer,

Ms. Peters’ article can be found HERE.

Mr. Malinchak’s article can be found HERE.

They also likely got more than they expected when our council members went into executive session and a resident took the opportunity to speak with them. Continue reading
