screwedWhen I was told that a resident of West Easton wrote to the Wilson Borough Council, in an effort to screw their own West Easton community out of obtaining police coverage I was skeptical.

After all, it was known that the City of Easton, led by Mayor Panto, wasn’t going to renew the long-standing police contract. If Wilson couldn’t be persuaded to provide police protection, the community of West Easton would be left to depend on State Police, or scramble to create a new police force.

I requested from Wilson any letter received from any West Easton resident that advised their Council against providing police coverage to West Easton.

Wilson had no problem in making me a copy after filling out a request in writing.

I wanted to believe that what I had been told was nothing more than one of those rumors that has no foundation in fact. I found it difficult to believe that anyone would try to sink themselves and their community by arguing against having police protection provided. I wondered at the reasoning anyone would have to write such a letter.

Not so much now, when I found the letter was written by Tricia Mezzacappa.

Ms. Mezzacappa, who wrote the letter on August 22, 2013 is the same person who has been seeking a seat on the West Easton Council in the last two elections.

Ms. Mezzacappa has had an ongoing feud with West Easton’s governing body, but it seems that feud and her actions has affected all of us who reside in West Easton.

Her conspiracy theories, accusations, and other anger issues have been used to screw over an entire town.

Whether her letter had a direct influence on Wilson’s decision not to provide coverage is *unknown.

What is known, is that somebody who seeks an elected office that is supposed to represent the best interests of those they would serve, does not torpedo any possibility of fulfilling the needs of their community by writing letters that kick us all in our balls.

*UPDATE: This evening I received an email from a Wilson Council member who indicated a vote was taken by the Wilson Council on the matter of providing police protection to West Easton back in January of 2013. This link will access those minutes. Surprising to me, the vote was unanimous in refusing to enter into negotiations without any discussion of the possibility in doing so. The fact that Wilson Council had already made its’ decision doesn’t lessen the stink of the letter sent them and the intent.
