With 147 million Americans affected by the 2017 Equifax data breach of personal information it’s likely you may be among them.
Using their “Eligibility Tool” page, you can find out for sure.
Equifax is offering those impacted a flat $125 payment if you already have credit monitoring, or up to 10 years of free monitoring service.
For those impacted with higher costs of the breach having caused out of pocket expenses in restoring credit, loss of money, stolen identity, or other problems, an option is offered to be made whole, with a cap of $20,000 on the claim.
If you lost more than $20,000 you must file a “Request for Exclusion,” postmarked no later than November 19.
Excluding yourself from agreement offered means you’d retain your rights to sue Equifax on your own.
You have until January 19, 2020 to claim the $125, the free monitoring service, or submit documentation supporting expenses up to the $20,000 cap.
