West Easton will have a Chief of Police (CoP) next month.

Mr. Mahady will be sworn in as our Top Cop at the next Council Meeting, scheduled for November 4th @ 6:30 PM.

The public is invited to attend and welcome Mr. Mahady as the first West Easton CoP in more than 50 years.

But don’t call him about a car that beeped its horn, just yet. The official roll-out of the police department will still need a couple of months to complete.

While his position will be mainly administrative for the first 30-60 days, a CoP is required to purchase certain equipment. Among that equipment are body cameras and tasers approved for police departments.

Following Safety Committee meeting discussions with current Police Consultant Mr. Robert Mahady, it was mutually agreed that there was enough preliminary groundwork in place for him to accept the position of CoP.

At the October 14 Council Meeting, members voted to accept Police Consultant Mahady as Chief of Police and to have him properly sworn in, following the recommendation of the Safety Committee’s Chairperson, Mrs. Janie Jones Brown.

As Chief, Mr. Mahady will be overseeing the creation of an evidence room at the police station, testing various equipment, setting up a reporting system, finalizing SOP manuals, and conducting interviews of candidates for part-time police officers, which will include background checks.

Candidate recommendations from Chief Mahady will be provided to Council, as Council makes the hiring and firing decisions of police officers. The Mayor’s role is overseeing the work schedule and assignments of police officers.

It is anticipated that upon the official roll-out of the police force there will be at least three part-time police officers to work various shifts and days in the borough.

The official roll-out of the West Easton Police Department is planned for sometime in late December, barring any unforeseen delays.

RESIDENTS ARE ADVISED THAT UNTIL THE OFFICIAL ROLL-OUT OF THE POLICE FORCE IS ANNOUNCED THE PUBLIC SHOULD NOT EXPECT A WEST EASTON POLICE OFFICER TO RESPOND, AS CALLS WILL STILL BE DIRECTED TO PSP.
