Tomorrow is Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service.
There is often confusion in how the U.S. flag should be properly displayed on standing flagpoles for Memorial Day.
In observance of the holiday, display the United States flag at Half Staff from sunrise until Noon.
The half staff position reminds Americans that through our country’s history, men and women serving in the military gave the ultimate sacrifice for the rest of us to remain free.
Raising the flag at noon is proof that their sacrifice was not in vain.
United States Flag Code, Section 7.M
The flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
On Memorial Day the flag should be displayed at Half Staff until noon only.
