It’s a shame that a failed President is still getting media attention for the stupid things he says, but this time he deserves the attention, because it shines a light on his true anti-democratic beliefs and his adoration of those with the authoritarian power he sought for himself.
You only have to read what Trump said about President Biden’s response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invading Ukraine under the guise of it being a peacekeeping mission. Not surprising, he said it as President Biden aligned allies to impose economic sanctions on Russia.
After falsely claiming (again) the 2020 election was rigged, he went on to praise Putin, calling him “savvy” for declaring two portions of Ukraine independent and then sending in his forces to keep the peace, during an interview with right-wing conservative radio hosts, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton.
Putin’s puppet didn’t start with licking his master’s hammer and fondling his sickle with the word, “savvy.” Trump was stroking Putin with the intensity of a $5 hooker given a $100 bill.
“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius,’ ” Trump told his friendly interviewers. “Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine. Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful. So, Putin is now saying, ‘It’s independent,’ a large section of Ukraine. I said, ‘How smart is that?’ And he’s gonna go in and be a peacekeeper. That’s strongest peace force … We could use that on our southern border. That’s the strongest peace force I’ve ever seen. There were more army tanks than I’ve ever seen. They’re gonna keep peace all right. No, but think of it. Here’s a guy who’s very savvy, I know him very well. Very, very well.”
We could use that on our southern border? Yes, he really said that.
One can only wonder if Trump would declare the Mexico states of Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, and Tamaulipas as independent, and send in American troops.
While Trump’s view on Ukraine, not unlike Trump himself, is completely insane, it is not surprising he would try to undermine the efforts of the current administration to reign in Putin’s land grab of a sovereign nation without the use of American troops.
Trump’s well-documented affection for Putin and his disdain for Democracy, NATO, and our other allies, while adoring murderous dictators, such as North Korea’s Kim Jung-un, only proves Trump was never worthy of the Oval Office.
Remember when Trump’s minions flirted with Putin and Russia during his 2016 campaign? Remember when he invited Russia’s foreign minister to the Oval Office the day after he fired FBI Director James B. Comey for pressing forward on the Russia probe? Remember when he met with Putin in private (with no record of the conversation) in Helsinki and then emerged to take Putin’s side on Russia’s 2016 election interference, over that of our own intelligence agencies?
Yet, despite his attempted coup on January 6th to remain in power, idiots in this country still think he wants to “save” our Democracy. The ignorant still send this snake oil salesman money and proudly display his flag in support of a wanna-be dictator.
