Northampton School District Has No Policy On Compensation For Hourly Employees Sent Home For Covid

In response to a Right To Know Request sent to the Northampton Area School District, there is no policy that explains how, or if hourly employees at NASD will be compensated, should they find themselves out of work, due to Covid-19.

The RTK sought to discover if employees would continue receiving a wage directly from NASD, PA Unemployment, or if they would have to use all paid days available (such as might be found in a union contract).

Asked for any official policy enacted, or any communication sent to hourly employees on how they would be paid if they contracted Covid-19, were isolated due to contact with a positive case, or during a school closing, their response was, “record does not currently exist.”

Salaried employees will, of course, continue being paid if sent home, but for any staff on an hourly wage, they may find themselves without a paycheck for an extended period of time, should cases of Covid affect them directly, or indirectly, if in fact, the district really has no plan in place for wage compensation.
