Depending on who I talk to, the opinions on the new LED street lights vary from one end of the spectrum to the other.

One resident told me she felt they weren’t bright enough and were too focused on the area below the pole. “It’s like a spotlight. The light doesn’t expand far enough” the resident told me.

Another resident likes the increased light on the street, but had to change to thicker curtains because the light from the pole entered her upstairs bedroom at night. For this resident, the light expanded too far.

Not bright enough, or too bright? Too focused below, or not focused enough? It seems the opinions vary depending on where the resident lives in relation to the pole and one thing is obvious – you can’t satisfy everyone.

The only thing that most residents seem pleased about is that West Easton will see monetary savings from using LED bulbs, rather than the less energy efficient bulbs that were in use. West Easton was paying about $2000 each month for electricity used for street lighting. The new LED bulbs should provided a significant savings in that expense.

It is my understanding that these LED bulbs chosen for the initial installation can be replaced if adjustments need to be made to the intensity of the light in different areas, but more information will be needed from residents.

If you have serious concerns about a street light being too bright, or not bright enough I would suggest making those concerns known at the next Council Meeting. Until Council receives input from a larger sampling of residents it is unlikely the LED bulbs chosen will be replaced with a different intensity bulb.
