Though West Easton’s revival of a Community Watch Program is still in its early phase, there has been enough of a positive response to believe many more residents will be joining as members.

A Community Watch Program does not usually fall under the direction or guidance of a town council. Rather, it is most often a self-governing organization made up of residents in the community.

Though council members consisting of myself, Janie Jones Brown, and Paul James, as well as Mayor DePaul have been seeking members, the appearance of the Community Watch being under control of the Council wanted to be avoided.

At Monday’s council meeting, those of us who are Block Captains offered Mayor DePaul the leadership role of the Community Watch Program, as private citizen Dan DePaul.

He has accepted the leadership position, and since he is also the Mayor in charge of the Police Department, which will be working with the Community Watch Program, it should work out well.
