If you don’t think Speaker of The House John Boehner and his Tea Party fanatics have affected West Easton, due to their shutdown of the federal government, take notice of some street corners right here in the borough.

There are a number of corners that had work being done on them in order to comply with The Americans With Disability Act. The street corners are required to be sloped and meet specifications in order to make sidewalks accessible to wheelchairs. It’s an extremely costly project to have the work done.

Thanks to Council President Kelly Gross, who applied for grants to obtain funding for the project, not only was West Easton approved to receive money that would pay for the improvements this year, but a second grant was approved for additional curbs to be done next year.

As many have noticed, they are sitting idle now. The cement work has been completed and that company will receive their money, but the last phase of replacing the road asphalt can not be completed because the federal government, including HUD, from where the money comes from to pay the asphalt company, is shut down. Like any business, the asphalt company isn’t going to work, if they aren’t getting paid.

So, for those who told me they “heard” the work wasn’t completed because West Easton is broke, put your worries to rest. We aren’t broke. For those who “heard” West Easton is paying “thousands and thousands” of dollars out of our borough tax money, stop passing along some other idiots’ nonsense.

You also might try writing Congress to tell them to get their heads out of their butts, and end the shutdown. Tell the Tea Party Republicans that you are unable to cross the street in your wheelchair, because they are incapable of understanding the results of playing political games in Congress.
