Councilman Paul James, speaking for the Legal Committee at Monday’s Council meeting, is seeking input from the public regarding a possible Quality of Life Ordinance that the committee has been working on for the past few months and is preparing to present to the West Easton Council for approval.

It is hoped the ordinance will improve the image and appearance of West Easton.

The ordinance would cover a broad area of issues including appearance of properties, maintenance of vehicles, amount of and  length of time trash receptacles can be left out, invasive plantings, pet feces in yards, swimming/wading pools of all types, indoor appliances placed outdoors, noise, and a host of other neighborhood problems.

Within the ordinance would be enforcement procedures and monetary fines imposed for offenses.

The Legal Committee would like to gather a quorum of residents to discuss quality of life issues and solicit suggestions to further define the ordinance.

“Quality of life issues affect everyone,” Mr. James said. “I don’t want (Council) to be the only ones to decide what’s right and what’s wrong. We want to make sure everyone is on board. We want to make this a document that everyone buys into,” he concluded.
