“My name will not be on the ballot next year,” Mayor Gerald W. Gross stated during the Mayor’s Report at Monday’s Council meeting.
Mayor Gross had been occasionally making statements over the last year hinting that he would step down, but he had not actually confirmed a decision publicly, until last night.
He had told me of his decision days prior to his announcement, but I believed it was up to him to choose his own time and place to inform the public.
Now in his seventies, he noted that next year he will have served for 52 years and though he enjoyed his time, he wants to enjoy the time he has left.
The past elections for Mayor of West Easton have been mostly uncontested during Mayor Gross’ tenure.
I expect that will change in 2017. I believe there are currently at least three people who will throw their hat in the ring, but it is unlikely they will announce until next year.
