Pennsylvania State Police have issued a Community Awareness Bulletin in the hope of notifying residents that a rise in methamphetine manufacturing is occurring throughout Pennsylvania.
With the increase in manufacturing, an increase in dump sites will follow.
The dump sites are considered extremely dangerous, with active chemicals still producing hydrochloric acid and some discarded containers under pressure and at risk of exploding. Those manufacturing the illegal drug often bury the waste near the manufacturing location, or may discard it in trash recepticles, in streams, along the roadside, abandoned properties, or other remote locations.
Most sites have plastic bottles containing a brown liquid, with solids formed at the bottom of the liquid. Often, tubing is still attached to the bottles.
In one instance, a response team moved bags at a stream dump location and they ignited when they came in contact with water and air.
Chemicals from the manufacturing process and residue from the methamphetine found at these dump sites can be inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin.
Make your children aware of the potential hazard and avoid contact. Should you discover a possible dump site, you should call 911 and report it immediately.
