CIU 20 bus drivers, monitors, custodians, and mechanics voted to approve the Pennsylvania Labor Board’s Fact Finder recommendation of a fair contract with CIU 20 administration.
Negotiations between TWU Local 282 and CIU 20 management began in February of 2012.
The Labor Board Fact Finder was requested due to an impasse on certain issues that couldn’t be resolved during negotiations. Among the items in contention were health benefits and the use of seniority in determining work assignments.
The workers of CIU 20 began organizing themselves in early 2011 and voted in the Transport Workers Union (TWU) on October 19th of that same year by a large majority. TWU Local 282 represents approximately 96 workers at CIU 20.
Approval of the PA Labor Board Fact Finder’s recommendation is also needed from CIU 20’s Board of Directors before a contract can be ratified.
CIU 20 provides services to special needs children for 13 school districts located in Northampton, Monroe, and Pike Counties.
