West Easton is usually an uneventful place, but the day before Christmas found the community dealing with no electricity, a fire, and flooding.
Just as the rain started with a drizzle in the early afternoon, a car managed to take out a telephone pole on the Wilson Borough side of Iron Street, breaking it in half. It was reported the car was hit by another, forcing it into the pole.
Out went the lights in West Easton, as did notification to residents who opted into the borough’s Emergency Text Alert System.
As the rain intensified a few hours later, the Lehigh River and rain caused flooded conditions along Lehigh Drive, and its closing to traffic.
With no electricity, portable generators could be heard running throughout the borough, and one of those caused a fire. Safety First Volunteer Fire Company responded, and doused it before it did major damage to the home on the 300 block of 5th St.
Since we are already in a pandemic, the only thing missing for us to have won Apocalypse Bingo was a swarm of locusts.
