This past growing season I planted a garden in my backyard. I had a friend come in with a 4′ wide tiller and turn over an area about 20′ x 24′. I then ordered a few cubic yards of organic soil from a local nursery. I created my garden for a number of reasons.
First, I like to grow things. If I had a larger property I would plant a fruit orchard along with my vegetable garden.
Second, I find it relaxing and I enjoy seeing my efforts produce results that saves me hundreds of dollars in grocery bills.
Thirdly, I’ve become very aware that what is being sold in stores is laden with pesticides, wax, chemicals and doesn’t even taste that good.
Finally, I’m extremely concerned about eating GMO foods and the fact that Monsanto Corp., that produces *GMOs controls our food supply and the FDA. Monsanto is the same company that produced Agent Orange during the Vietnam War and produces RoundUp weed killer, among a host of other killer chemicals.
*Genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. Organisms that have been genetically modified include micro-organisms such as bacteria and yeast, insects, plants, fish, and mammals.
The corn you are eating from the grocery stores is a GMO, as is the Canola oil (made from GMO rapeseed). Just about everything you are eating now has an ingredient that was grown from a GMO. This includes prepackaged foods, wheat, and rice products.
Evidence is apparent that Monsanto and their GMO’s are also harming the environment. To see results from a Google search of, “GMO and Bee Colony Collapse, ” CLICK HERE.
While our government embraces GM food and Monsanto, Europe is wiser. Most European countries require labeling that informs the public that GMO is present in the food they are inspecting. Other countries in the world have outright banned growing and selling GMOs. These countries include, Japan, Switzerland, New Zealand, Austria, Hungary, Greece, Bulgaria and Luxembourg. Other countries are also beginning to rethink their approvals of GM food.
Instead of our government keeping us informed and performing proper testing on these foods, the FDA is stacked with ex-Monsanto employees and laws are passed to protect Monsanto from being sued for any future liability that might be proved.
Below is an award winning video, Seeds of Death. Take the time to watch it and you’ll probably want to start your own garden next spring.
