Residents along East Street have long complained about Delta Wash, the commercial laundry that set up shop in the old Chipman Mill building.
They have legitimate complaints. Noise, which they now say is not as bad as it used to be, was the first of their trouble.
More recently it has been the unfiltered discharge of lint.
The first time I was made aware of how bad it was I contacted DEP’s Air Quality Department and filed a complaint for the borough.
Surprisingly, a DEP representative was quick to respond with a phone call to me and then made a visit to Delta Wash within a few days. He found ripped filters and other problems.
Following a warning issued by the DEP, Delta Wash repaired the filters, promising to keep them cleaned and maintain them in working order.
No fine was issued for that first offense, but Delta Wash and the borough was told that further violations would not receive a warning.
Today, I received a video of Delta Wash in violation once again.
Apparently, they have little respect for their neighbors along East Street. The lint blowing around in the video prevents residents from hanging clothes to dry, or even grilling outside, as lint of a size that cannot be seen in the video, rides the winds toward our residential district.
Something will be done about it.
