West Easton vote totals show that Trump won the borough, despite it being known as a Democrat community.
While no candidate bothers to court West Easton for votes, due to it’s small population, it is interesting for us in West Easton to look at the numbers in the make-up of the local electorate.
At first glance, a casual observer might believe West Easton has flipped from a Democrat to a Republican community, but when one drills into the numbers a bit more, it indicates West Easton demographics may not have changed and that President Trump didn’t do much better in West Easton, than he had in 2016.
It should be noted that West Easton went overwhelmingly to Obama in 2008 and 2012.
Currently, Trump can be considered an erroneous glitch in American politics, who made it acceptable to openly display the darker side of our human nature and embrace divisiveness among the populace.
More than 4 million voters in the country have turned away from Trump in a record breaking election of total votes cast.
West Easton’s final vote count for the Presidential Ticket:
Trump/Pence: 325
Biden/Harris: 262
While Trump’s vote total increased in West Easton it could be argued that the newly registered voters offset any gains he might have made among the DINOs in West Easton, or that sleeping Democrats saw the need to wake up and get their vote counted this year.
In the 2016 election there were 784 registered voters in West Easton. In this 2020 election that number has increased to 823.
That increase of 39 voters is a slightly less than 5% increase, which is a good thing to see – more participation in elections.
In the 2016 election Trump received 53.45% of the vote in West Easton. In this 2020 election Trump received 54.1%, an insignificant 0.65% increase.
Using just the number of votes for each candidate (discarding any 3rd party and write-in votes), in 2020 Trump received 0.9% more votes than he received in 2016. Biden received 0.89% more votes than Hillary Clinton received in 2016.
As expected, West Easton’s turning Red a second time for Trump had no effect at the county level, or state level this election cycle, where both have flipped back to being Blue and giving President-elect Biden his victory.
What can be said for West Easton, Pennsylvania, the entire country, and should be credited to President Trump, is that his running for a second term created a historic turn-out of voters wanting to determine the direction of our country for the next 4 years.
West Easton had a turnout of more than 73.5% of registered voters this election. That’s a number to celebrate.
Updated to reflect revised figure in voter turnout percentage this year.
