West Easton Says Thank You With Niko Park, Gross Park Dedications

In December of 2015 a decision was made to rename the 9th Street park for former Councilman Louis Niko and the Keystone Avenue park for Mayor Gerald Gross.

Formal dedication ceremonies for both men were performed this morning. Mr. Niko’s dedication took place at 10:00 am and Mayor Gross’ dedication followed at 10:30 am.

Mr. Niko’s presentation began on time, at the park on 9th Street.

Mr. Louis Niko, who resigned due to poor health in 2016, was able to attend his ceremony, assisted by his daughter, Sharon Niko. Mr. Niko had a number of friends and family in attendance, including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mayor Gross made the presentation of, The Louis Niko Community Park and also proclaimed today, April 15th, 2017, Louis Niko Day.

Mayor Gross spoke of Mr. Niko’s dedication to the Borough and his other community service that included playing Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny during those respective events.

Mayor Gross awarded Mr. Niko the framed proclamation and a plaque for his 47 years of community service, before he and Council President Dan DePaul unveiled the new sign at the park.

The dedication ceremony for Mayor Gross’ 52 years of public service followed at 10:30. His was heldĀ  at the corner of Keystone Avenue and 5th Street. City of Easton Mayor Sal Panto stopped by to wish the Mayor well, but was unable to remain for the dedication.

Fr. Daniel Troyan, from West Easton Ukrainian Church, started the dedication with a benediction. Mayor Gross had a number of people in attendance, who spoke during the dedication.

Representative Robert Freeman spoke at the podium, as did the Mayor’s daughter, former Council President Kelly Gross. Council President Dan DePaul also spoke.

All reminded those in attendance of the many years of service the Mayor gave to West Easton and of accomplishments made during that time.

Mayor Gross finally got his chance and spoke of his fond memories of West Easton, things that were achieved with good Councils over the years, and his hopes for the future of the Borough, while thanking those who attended the dedication.
