For those of you who have visited WestEastonPA.com over the last few years you’ve noticed that the design and layout has changed since I moved it to a new hostserver last weekend. I tried a few designs (some only for a few minutes) before deciding on this one.
The most obvious is the header and color scheme. Overall, I think the best part of the new design is it is easier to read, with a white background and black print, rather than the yellow toned background it had previously. It is also less “busy.” I removed the picture that had appeared in the header. There are also fewer published articles that load on the landing page. Where there was once 30, you will now see only 10. That change should help the website’s home page load faster.
You’ll also notice that the headlines for each post found on the landing page can be seen. In the prior design you had to put your pointer on the image that went with the published article, in order to see the headline pop up.
I’ve added a “Sections” area on one of the sidebars where clicking on one of the listed links will take you to a page where all published items I assigned to that section will appear. I’ll be working on those post assignments as time permits. Due to the fact this “Sections” area is a feature that wasn’t previously available to readers, I was a bit lax in correctly assigning some published items when I posted them. I’ll now have to go through all of them and make sure they are assigned where they should be.
You will also find social media links at the top of the site. Other than Youtube, I don’t use social media much for this website and I don’t use it at all, on a personal basis for privacy reasons, with Facebook being the most evil, in my honest opinion. So, things like Twitter and Facebook for WestEastonPA.com are a bit sparse. I’ll get to those when the more important items are taken care of.
An RSS Feed link is now available next to the social media links. RSS feeds provide frequently updated content published by a website. They are commonly used for distributing digital content, including pictures, audio, or video. A feed can have the same content as a webpage, but it’s often formatted differently. When you subscribe, your browser automatically checks the website and downloads new content so you can see what is new since you last visited the feed. Basically, you won’t have to visit this website to see if anything new was added. Your browser will let you know.
One change to note is the lack of the “Home” link that was found on the bar running just below the header area. That link would take you back to the home page (landing page). If you want to get back to the home page again, simply click on the website title, “West Easton PA” at the top of the website. Most websites use this method and you are probably familiar with having done it before on other sites. I mention it because you may be looking for that “Home” link that no longer exists.
Hopefully, you like the changes.
