Yes, West Easton is still making progress toward a part-time police department.
With the recent approval of the various government agencies authorizing West Easton’s part-time police department, Council authorized the Safety Committee to approve purchases of equipment and supplies recommended by Police Consultant Robert Mahady.
The Safety Committee met with Mr. Mahady on Wednesday. Though many items were discussed, some had to be delayed until others were purchased first.
The purchases were authorized in order to lessen the delay of rolling out the Police Department at a future date.
Some of the authorized items are:
- Alarms and safety sensors for the police building, including a monitoring service.
- A fully equipped 4×4 Ford Explorer police vehicle that has been offered for sale.
- Insurance to cover police building and contents.
- Parking Violation citation books.
- Gun storage lockers.
- Vehicle equipment bags w/safety supplies
- Large weapons safe.
- Large equipment storage chest w/drawers.
- Drug test kits/evidence bags/additional supplies
In addition to the above items, Councilperson Lake is investigating costs for Internet, phone service, and office equipment. Mayor DePaul is on the trail of possible free police radios, and I am looking into a security camera system free of installation labor charges.
