On Tuesday, LehighValleyLive.com (LVL) reported Governor Wolf’s announcement that a new business, IQ Fibers, would be opening a manufacturing facility on Lehigh Drive.
IQ Fibers expects to employ 40 people at their facility.
That’s great news, but you would think West Easton would have been informed of it.
I read the news an hour after it was posted on LVL. I had to read it twice because like everyone else in West Easton, nobody knew anything about it.
It seems a bit strange to me that this company and the Governor can make an agreement to put a business into our municipality without even seeking some sort of basic preliminary approval from the town.
The owner of the building, that IQ Fibers will be leasing, didn’t even mention he was getting into an agreement.
My problem isn’t with this manufacturer.
My problem is what if somebody decides to move in something not allowed. Businesses keep appearing down there on Lehigh Drive and usually nobody knows about them until after they move in.
Despite the announcement, IQ Fibers will still need to apply for a business permit.
I find it difficult to believe that if this were going into Easton, Wilson, or Bethlehem, that they wouldn’t have been notified before the announcement was made.
Hopefully, they will be a good neighbor.
