The application for a $50,000 grant to offset the cost of the proposed road work, that took multiple meetings and arguments to get beyond the Council for submission, was ultimately rejected by the County, it was disclosed at Monday’s Council Meeting.

The rejection, says Councilman Dan DePaul, was due to the engineer, hired by the borough to help prepare the grant proposal, was ineligible to be involved in the grant process.

The engineer was a former employee of Northampton county in the last 12 months and as such, he made himself ineligible to work on projects that would involve the County until a 12 month hiatus period following his departure from County employment had been met.

DePaul stated he discovered the loss of the grant only recently when he was at the County office and the subject of the grant came up, at which time he was told of the situation and received a copy of the letter mailed to the borough sometime in October.

Council President Kelly Gross stated that no letter was received and asked for a copy of the letter, which DePaul provided to her.

DePaul doesn’t want the engineer paid for his services, as the engineer never informed the borough of his ineligibility to perform the work for the purpose of the grant.
