In what has been a surprisingly difficult position to fill for the last two years, Mr. Glen Ackerman, Sr., a 20-year resident of West Easton stepped up and submitted a Letter Of Interest to be appointed to the West Easton Vacancy Board.
The Vacancy Board seat has been unoccupied since January of 2018.
His appointment was unanimous. Council wanted him in before he changed his mind.
The Vacancy Board’s only job is to make an appointment to a vacant Council seat, if the Council fails to appoint someone within 30 days of the vacancy, either through lack of a majority vote for candidates, or a deadlock of Council.
In the history of West Easton Borough the Vacancy Board has never been used to appoint someone to a vacant Council seat.
The Vacancy Board holds no monthly meetings, files no reports and is not required to attend Council meetings, but is activated should the almost impossible happen, as it has in Lower Saucon Valley.
Lower Saucon Valley failed to have a member on their Vacancy Board following a deadlocked vote of Council, and now a Northampton County Judge will decide who will be appointed to their Council.
