It wasn’t a 3-day weekend for some us.
Though there was some worry by a few around me that the construction of West Easton’s Broken Column Fountain at War Monument Park wouldn’t be completed in time for this Memorial Day morning, I calmed their concerns by quoting Gen. George Armstrong Custer, when he addressed the troops just before The Battle of Little Big Horn.
“Do not fear, men! There are only a few Indians ahead.”
Despite those words of inspiration and MetEd not hooking up to the new electrical lines, put in by electrician Peter Sciascia during the last two weeks, the area was still ready for presentation this Memorial Day morning.
It happened, thanks to the hard work put forth by not only the two laborers from Daniel’s Landscaping, but also by our own Road Supervisor.
Dane Thatcher came in on Saturday and Sunday, working to make sure we were ready for today. He also came in this morning, setting up tables, chairs, barriers, the podium, and then breaking everything down after the service event.
The fountain area was well received. I only heard of one resident complaining about the grant money that was obtained to pay for it.
I thought you might find it interesting to see a slideshow of the park’s progression since 2016.
