It’s a pleasure for me to write about positive things in West Easton, rather than some cRaZy thing that happens in town, or at council meetings. This is one that everyone can enjoy, especially if you like pierogies.
Lehigh Valley Live reported that the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in West Easton has won the Lehigh Valley Peirogi showdown for the best pierogi. The church won against more than 80 others competing for the top honor.
I can attest to the fact that it was no mistake. I was at the church’s newly resurrected Ukrainian Festival they held this past June. It was the first time they held the festival after 20 years of it being absent.
I had my share of pierogi with onions and even took an order to go. Local residents and those in the surrounding area have known they make the best pierogi. People who have had them before didn’t really need the validation of a contest, but it doesn’t hurt to be recognized.
Now that the word is out, you might have to order yours earlier in advance than normal. You can order from the church website by clicking HERE.
Father Dan Troyan, the church’s pastor, has done much to revive the church located at 315 4th Street. The small building across the street from the church was formerly the Wesley Chapel and is one of the oldest landmarks in West Easton. The Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church has owned it since 1998 and now refers to it as, “The Chapel.” It serves as a religious education center for children and adults, a summer camp for kids, and provides AA meetings on Monday evenings.
Congratulations to Fr. Troyan, those who work hard at making the pierogi, and everyone else involved in the church.
I’m looking forward to your next festival in June 2017!
