Francis Thomas Roscioli was sentenced for the drunken driving death of a 35 year-old pedestrian from Spring Street, West Easton.
Abraham Rivera was struck and killed by the vehicle Roscioli was driving, when he was walking home along Lehigh Drive in Easton, near the Lafayette College boathouse.
Easton police said that Roscioli’s vehicle crossed the dividing line of roadway, striking Rivera who was walking in the opposite direction. Roscioli then crashed his vehicle, flipping it, whereby it came to rest on its roof, about 100 yards down the road.
Roscioli’s blood-alcohol content was 0.09, according to court papers, and he was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee 65 to 70 mph when he struck Rivera, police said at the time.
In what can only be described as the unfairness in life, Rivera was walking home that night because he was doing the responsible thing. HeĀ too, had consumed alcohol that evening and decided to walk home rather than risk driving his vehicle.
Roscioli was not as responsible and it resulted in the death of Rivera.
Northampton County President Judge Stephen Baratta sentenced Roscioli to three to seven years in state prison for the death of Abraham Rivera.
Much sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Mr. Rivera.
