Deep Freeze Tonight Means Ice On Sidewalks Tomorrow

A deep freeze in the low single digits will come in late this afternoon and into this evening, meaning the snowfall today, followed by the rain will make for rock hard mounds of snow along curbs and sheets of ice on uncleared walkways.

Before that freeze hits, clear as much of the water laden snow from your walkways and at least a small path from your walkway to your car door, if you park your vehicle on the street.

You won’t have an easy opportunity to do it tomorrow, unless you like chipping at ice.

A small container of salt, or sand near your front door is advisable. Exiting your home in the morning will be less hazardous if you spread some type of traction material in front of you as you step out your door and proceed to your vehicle. The moisture left on the walkways overnight will be frozen, creating a thin sheen of ice.

Temperatures this evening are forecast to be 8 degrees creating a rapid freeze-up and black ice on roadways.

With the exception of Wednesday’s daytime high of 37 degrees, temperatures won’t break above the freezing mark for the rest of the week.
