Councilman Louis Niko submitted a Letter of Resignation to Council at the May 9th Council Meeting, ending 47 years of service to West Easton.

In his resignation letter he cited health issues and other reasons for his departure.

Council voted 2-2 to accept his resignation. Councilmen Lewis and Dees voted “No,” hoping to extend the time required to fill the position with an appointee, which would have allowed Council more time to make the public aware of the vacancy, gather letters of interest, and conduct interviews of interested candidates.

Council President Dan DePaul and Councilman Henry Nodoline voted “Yes.” Mayor Gross broke the tie with his “Yes” vote.

Mr. DePaul stated the position can be advertised on the West Easton Borough website, at Borough Hall, and by word-of-mouth.

Council would have had up to 45 days to accept the resignation before the 30-day requirement to fill the position would have started the clock running on making an appointment.

Due to the 30-day requirement now running, because of the acceptance of the resignation at last nights council meeting, a decision will have to be made on an appointee at the next scheduled council meeting on May 23rd, as the June meeting will take place beyond the required 30 days.
