Council President Dan DePaul has withdrawn his name for one of four council seats up for election this year, instead focusing on his run for Mayor.

Currently, the Mayor’s seat, which was open for the taking due to the retirement of current Mayor Gerald Gross at the end of this term, only has Democrat Dan DePaul listed as a contender. Republicans failed to field a candidate for the Primary.

Mr. DePaul feels confident that with the field of Democrats vying for theĀ four seats up for election this year, the Democrat voters will make the correct selection of theĀ best four candidates that should move on to November.

He noted that with so many running for a Council seat, his added name to the mix might possibly draw votes from those he wants to see elected, or returned to Council.

Should he actually have won both the Mayor’s seat and a Council seat, he would have declined accepting the Council seat. That would have just resulted in somebody, not elected, getting appointed and that should be best left to voters from the beginning, he believes.

DePaul hasn’t officially endorsed any of the remaining candidates, or incumbents running for Council.
