If you believe the results of two polls conducted and reported on WFMZ.com , Democrat Tom Wolf would be our next Governor, if the election were held today.
This may be because the polls were conducted following a month-long media blitz by the Wolf campaign. I doubt there are many Pennsylvanians who could name two other candidates who still have their hats in the ring (Pawlowski is out).
I think any Democrat that gets his/her name known has a chance.
It may not be Tom Wolf who ends up as Governor, but it will be a Democrat.
Simply because Corbett has managed to piss off just about everybody in the state of Pennsylvania. Teachers, environmentalists, parents of children in schools, gays, lesbians, bisexuals, union members, the poor, drinkers, smokers, those who buy gasoline, and the list goes on.
About the only votes Corbett hasn’t lost are those covered in toxic chemicals working in the fracking industry and your millionaires.
Trouble is, most of the fracking laborers are transient workers and they’re too busy taking care of a 32% rise in STD’s they’ve caught and scoring meth, if you Google such terms. If you do, then it seems what they give a damn about in Pennsylvania is finding a massage parlor where they can get a happy ending without needing a penicillin shot.
As for the millionaire buddies and gas industry friends Corbett has, they’ve already provided plenty of money to him and will send him much more, but all the money in the world won’t change the minds of voters who realize that Corbett doesn’t give a damn about them, or the state of Pennsylvania.
There is little doubt that Corbett will come on strong and often with ads on television and radio as the election draws closer.
He’ll tout the gas industry providing jobs, but he’ll soon realize that voters are wise to the fact that those jobs are mostly low wage and the numbers reported don’t accurately reflect those linked directly to the gas industry. Also, the more he mentions the gas industry and his promoting it in Pennsylvania the more he will remind voters of the damage fracking is doing to our state and water supply.
Obviously, you’ll see ads promoting the benefits of fracking run in the eastern portion of Pennsylvania where we don’t see a lot of news regarding well explosions, poisoned water, chemical spills, and other problems.
The key for the Democrats to win is in all of them not fracking each other over when seeking the nomination. What they say about each other will be used by the Corbett staff as ammunition against his opponent.
The Democrat candidates all know that the victor of the nomination is likely the next Governor. It could easily turn into a slug fest among them if they let it become one and lose sight of the bigger goal of removing Corbett from office.
With little available for Corbett to brag about, his campaign will be based solely on making his opponent look like a bigger scumbag than he appears. Basically, a “vote for the lesser of two evils” campaign.
Just so the record is clear, I’m not a big fan of Tom Wolf. He seems to be as big a fan of fracking as Corbett is.
Wolf just wants to impose a tax on the industry. I haven’t heard him talk seriously about preventing Pennsylvania’s open spaces from becoming a moonscape of fracking pads. I’d like to hear more about where he stands on protecting PA’s environment.
He’s not my ideal candidate, if his only concern regarding the gas industry is getting more money from them.
