For those who missed Round 1, of the “Brawl In The Borough,” a second West Easton council meeting this month has been scheduled for September 22nd.
Since matters will focus on the budget and spending, the animated “discussions” of a personal nature that occurred at the last council meeting are unlikely to repeat themselves, but you never know.
It is, however, an opportunity for residents to give the Mayor and Council some input regarding your concerns of use of your tax dollars.
One item mentioned at the last meeting was the purchase of a new dump truck.
Then there are the two police vehicles that the Mayor suggested be traded in toward the purchase of the truck. Councilman Tom Nodoline wants to keep both for the Road Department, using one as a backup for the first, possibly installing a plow on one of them.
Personally, I’m in favor of getting rid of the two smaller Jeeps, opting for a small pickup truck, if the Road Department truly needs a smaller vehicle in a borough that can be walked end to end in less than 10 minutes.
I’m sure there will be other items on the agenda. Those just happen to come to mind as I write this.
You may have other concerns, or suggestions.
Remember that they are now working with more funds that they have had in the past. Not only did they not have to pay for Easton police coverage, but they also raised the mill rate 2.2 points that was thrown upon us, because we were told they needed it for our own police department – that was later determined unfeasible. They still have that 2.2 and we aren’t getting it back.
It may well be that items which were put off for years because lack of funds required it, might have to be bought.
I’m willing to listen and may even give a suggestion or two during the public comment portion of the meeting.
Are you?
Or will you stay at home, watch TV, and then bitch about what they spent your money on? If I bitch, at least I can say I went to the meeting.
The meeting will start at 7 p.m.
