Rubber-DuckI heard about this last night and wasn’t going to write anything about it because it just seemed so stupid that everyone showed up for an emergency that wasn’t.

It wasn’t until this morning that I read the poor guy got a ticket over it.

Man’s dip in Lehigh River brings emergency response, citations

A 54-year-old West Easton man’s attempt to cool off led several agencies to respond to the Lehigh River this evening.

A caller about 6:15 p.m. reported seeing a man jump into the river, according to emergency radio reports. In response, first responders with Pennsylvania State Police, Safety First Fire Department, Suburban Ambulance, Easton Fire Department and Pennsylvania Water Rescue came to the river in the area of Lehigh Drive to search for the man, authorities say.

Charles Richard Clark Jr. was retrieved from the water and cited for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, authorities say.

As some comments on the ET website say,  I also think he got cited because somebody saw him jump in and rather than asking if he needed assistance, the caller caused everyone but the National Guard to respond. They were pissed off that they found some guy relaxing with a drink and in the cool water of the river, instead of properly drowning. Cops gave him a citation because they got all hot and sweaty for nothing.

Let this be a lesson to you, neighbor. If you go to the river and are enjoying a dip when half the county shows up asking if you need help, just say, “Yes” and go under once or twice so they can rescue you.
