“We have salt,” said Councilman Tom Nodoline.
It was the answer to a question I posed to Tom Nodoline after reading that some neighboring communities were out of, or severely lacking in salt supplies.
When I spoke to Tom, it was just after 9:00 am. He and Dane (our plow driver) were preparing the snow plow with chains in preparation to begin plowing the streets.
The snow/ice event is coming to an end and temperatures are rising slightly.
Nodoline told me he had delayed the start of the plowing operation so that the ice would be on top of the snow covering the streets, making its removal easier when the plow scraped the macadam.
With temperatures just above the freezing mark, salt will do a better job on what slush will remain.
This may be the last opportunity to get ahead of the mess.
Temperatures over the next week are predicted to drop again with daytime temperatures in the mid-20’s and night time temperatures in single digits or teens. Another snow event is predicted for Sunday.
Feb 6th: H26° L8°
Feb 7th: H27° L7°
Feb 8th: H29° L18°
Feb 9th: H27° L18°
Feb 10th: H31° L13°
Feb 11th: H24° L14°
With temperatures like these it’s important to clean as much slush as possible from your own parking spots and pathways, or you’ll end up with a solid layer of ice tomorrow morning.
Have fun everyone. See you on the outside.
UPDATE @ 4:45
If you haven’t seen a plow on your street yet, you aren’t alone. I called Tom Nodoline again to ask the status. He assured me that plowing would continue into tonight until all streets were done.
