I’m proud to be a resident of West Easton.
Though we don’t have some of the amenities of other communities, I think West Easton is a great place to live, even without a pool, museum, or other attractions found elsewhere.
We’re a bit more passive. Content in not having the people or traffic problems of a large community that has a main roadway running through it. Many people don’t even know where West Easton is.
I think we’re the best unknown borough in Pennsylvania.
Through voting that makes changes when necessary, and finding alternative funding, West Easton has made improvements and gotten projects underway that others said were impossible.
We can boast of low taxes and low crime.
West Easton has never been known for floating bonds and taking huge loans to pay for things we can’t afford, and that is one thing we can thank all the previous administrations over the decades – not passing along debt to the next who are elected.
Most of our need for police will be to enforce local ordinances that the PSP refuses to act on. The million-dollar price tag for a police department, shouted by a few in the beginning, were from those who didn’t know how to get it done. We also aren’t bankrupt, as we were supposed to be by now.
Volunteerism and an interest in improving our community seems to be getting new life.
There were three Letters of Interest for the last vacant council seat. Mr. James Jankowich volunteered and worked to help refurbish our police station. Mrs. Connie Bolash volunteered to help with paperwork and assist our Police Chief, and now two more residents are involved in assisting Parks and Recreation Chair, Janie Jones Brown in getting the community some new events.
These types of residents are what brings a community together, promotes good citizenship, and sweeps aside those who focus on hate.
West Easton also has the good fortune to have dedicated employees.
Despite our Borough Manager Joan Heebner, having to answer an avalanche of RTKs submitted by one hate-filled resident, she continues to perform above and beyond for the good residents who live in West Easton.
Road Dept. Supervisor Dane Thatcher does more than just take care of roads. He’s also our Maintenance Department, and Jack-of-all-trades man, called upon to assist on many projects and take care of problems that pop up unexpectedly.
Are all things idyllic in our Borough? Not at all. We have problems in the Industrial District that are affecting nearby residents and these require the long process of solving them with more than just a letter of dissatisfaction being sent to them.
There are quality of life issues with local ordinances being ignored, but eventually those will be addressed, as well.
While one resident publicly calls us, “The biggest s***hole in the county,” and despite the occasional flying monkey sent from her keyboard, I think we are THE BEST COMMUNITY.
I’m happy to call it home.
UPDATE 2/24/20: The owner of the flying monkeys has launched a new one. Last week she claimed West Easton only had $1.2 Million. Tricia Mezzacappa
Today, she stated we are out of money. Tricia Mezzacappa
I’m going to see what we purchased over the weekend. I’m hoping it was a psychiatric hospital for our cRaZy Constable.
