First Snow This Season May Delay School Tomorrow

As many know, I drive a school bus and have seen a lot of school delays and closings following a snow event. I run about 90 percent accurate on how Wilson and Easton Area School Districts will respond.

My guess is a 2-hour delay tomorrow. If we get that 4″ total they are calling for, the roads won’t be in bad shape, as the trucks will work tonight to clear snow and salt the roadways.

When the snow stops this evening, by the early morning hours the roads may be in such good condition that people will wonder why there is a delay at all.

The 2-hour delay is usually declared to give schools time to clear and salt their sidewalks. Employee cars and buses need to be cleaned. It’s also hoped the extra time will have residents clear their own sidewalks for children who have to walk to school.

That’s my prediction – based on 4″ of snow. Tomorrow, we’ll find out how accurate I was.

UPDATE 12/3 Well, we ended up with less than 1″ of snow and I didn’t get to sleep in.  School started on time. As usual, local forecasters got it wrong.
